It’s in a neighborhood many wouldn’t have stepped foot in just a year ago.
“It’s going really well,” Peterson said. “We love it. It’s an amazing program.”
He’s one of several new homeowners in a neighborhood called “Town and Country Villas” in New Port Richey.
The area, which is located near US 19 and Gulf Drive, has long been known for its dilapidated homes and crime.
Now, it’s looking a lot different with new neighbors moving in.
Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco came into the neighborhood more than two years ago. They started buying up and demolishing some of the old, dilapidated homes that were attracting crime.

LARGO — For the past three months, Habitat for Humanity has been unable to use one of its key tools in helping to build homes: volunteers.
While the coronavirus pandemic may have slightly slowed the nonprofit housing developer’s production, it hasn’t stunted its ambition.
Three large projects underway or in the works in central Pinellas County prove that.

Largo, FL— On Tuesday, June 23rd, 2020, three families will celebrate the completion of the Habitat for Humanity homeownership program by receiving their keys. The Smith, Massey and Taylor families partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties to build their forever homes, which they will purchase with zero percent interest mortgages.
