“I already smiled a lot before I was accepted to the program. Now…I’m grinning within.”

Agnes Jackson Night Auditor/Front Desk Agent for Dolphin Beach Resort, Overnight House Monitor for St.Petersburg Free Clinic, mother to four children, and a grandmother to six. This hard working woman is on her journey towards homeownership with Habitat. She and her family are very close and like to hang out with one another four to five times a month. “It doesn’t have to be a special occasion for us to come together.” Agnes’ daughter, Ciere, was the one who inspired her to put in an application for Habitat. Now, her dreams are becoming a reality.

For five years, Agnes has lived in a small two-bedroom apartment. One year ago, her daughter moved into the second bedroom and there has been a major problem with space for the two of them. They also have been experiencing mold problems around the windows for many years as well as a large gap above the door that lets in bugs. They have let the landlord know about the issues, but he has done nothing to fix it, making the apartment barely livable. Soon enough, Agnes will be able to move into her own home that is free of bugs and mold and is full of space.

Getting accepted into the program was a dream come true for Agnes. “I’ve cried for so many years of wanting something better for myself and my family, and didn’t know how I could achieve that dream or if it was possible for me, until I saw it happening with other people.” She is excited to have a home that she can call her own and is ready to invite her children and grandchildren over to visit. She tell us that “My house will be peaceful and if you come for a visit, you’ll feel the welcoming spirit.”
