“I am building because I want my children to have some place to call home.”

Kasey Lockhart is a customer service representative at Small Moves – Pack and Loading Services. She is a single mother to three children and is on her journey towards homeownership with Habitat. Her oldest daughter, Haylee, is 10-years-old and loves school. She is very bright and loves to learn new things. She loves to teach her little siblings new things. Kayden is the middle child and is the only boy in the family. He is 4-years-old and loves the outdoors and playing catch. His mother hopes to sign him up for baseball one day. Jaycee is the youngest in the family at 3-years old. All of the kids love to spend time at Lake Seminole Park and enjoy going to the beach. Kasey describes her family as “respectful and helpful to others”. She teaches them to treat everyone equally and to be honest. She says, “My children are my world they are my reasoning behind never giving up.”

“Difficult is one word that you could describe our living situation,” Kasey says. She tells us that she is currently living in her 74-year-old grandmother’s 3-bedroom, 1 -bathroom house with her mother, her disabled uncle, and her three children. Having this many people living under one roof has resulted in a lack of privacy and space for her family. “I never thought I would be able to save enough money for my own home being a single mom…Thanks to Habitat and dedication I will eventually be a first time home buyer!”

After learning that she was accepted into the Habitat program, Kasey says the emotions she felt were “almost unbelievable”. There was a lot of excitement for the Lockhart family and they are eager to have stability in their life and a place to call home. In their new forever home, Kasey is excited to take her shoes off, make dinner for her kids, and create memories that will last a lifetime. “My children will finally have somewhere to call home. I plan on passing my home down to my children when the day comes.”

Eleven years ago, Kasey’s friend went through the Habitat program and she was able to volunteer with her to complete sweat equity hours. She is excited to finally do the same for her own Habitat home. She hopes to learn more about home improvement and the Habitat ReStore. Habitat ReStores are nonprofit retail centers where new and gently used building materials and home furnishings are sold at discounted prices. To learn more about our ReStores and how you can donate, volunteer, or shop, please visit our Volunteer Page on our website.

“Don’t ever give up on yourself…keep pushing forward and good things will happen. And don’t forget to pray!”
