“I am looking forward to security and to know that we have a safe forever home.”

Homeownership was once a dream for Latasha Hayes, but now, because of Habitat for Humanity, it is becoming a reality. Latasha has been a certified nursing assistant since 2007 and loves to work with the elderly. She is a single mother to her three kids and one niece. Her oldest child, Geriyah, is 12-years-old and loves music and dancing. Her oldest son, Kemarien, is 8-years-old and loves law enforcement trucks and cars. He wants to be a police officer when he grows up. Gerard, her youngest son, is 4-years-old and loves Paw Patrol and basketball. Zariah, Latasha’s niece, is very creative and loves arts and crafts. The family is very close and oriented. Latasha says “We support each other good or bad. We love each other unconditionally. I teach them to treat others with the same respect as they want to receive because respect will take you a long way in life.”

The Hayes Family’s living situation was very challenging before moving applying for the Habitat program. At one point, they experiences pest issues so bad that they had to move into a hotel for days and weeks at a time, which caused a lot of financial issues for the family. Getting the news that they were accepted was a dream come true. “My family has been blessed and this is our break through. Prayer really changes things.”

For Latasha’s Sweat Equity, she was able to volunteer at one of our ReStores. Here, she says she had a blast and was able to meet many wonderful people with such positive thoughts and encouraging words.
