On Saturday, February 29th, 2020, over 60 volunteers donated their time at the fourth annual “Paint the Block” event, presented by Valspar and The Valspar Championship. The event is part of Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas and West Pasco Counties’ “A Brush with Kindness” program. Volunteers rolled through Dansville community in Largo to provide exterior home improvements for five homeowners.

“A Brush with Kindness” is an initiative that serves low to moderate income homeowners who struggle to maintain the exterior of their homes. The program focuses on exterior home repair services such as painting, minor exterior repairs, landscaping, and exterior cleanup, with the goal of home preservation as well as neighborhood beatification. Volunteers work alongside the homeowner and Habitat staff to revitalize a home’s exterior.

The program increases the number of families living in safe, decent, affordable housing, expands the base of volunteers by providing a different type of experience, keeps current sponsors engaged with additional opportunities for smaller projects and creates opportunities to develop cooperative relationships within the community (with neighborhood churches, community organizations, city and county governments, business, etc.).

In addition to recently sponsoring its fifth Habitat home with the affiliate, Valspar Paint and the Valspar Championship continues to support Habitat Pinellas and West Pasco with a $5,000 donation to provide paint and supplies for this event.

As part of an ongoing effort to bring affordable homeownership opportunities to the area’s working-class neighborhoods, Habitat Pinellas and West Pasco continues to work with Pinellas County officials and community partners to build and beautify homes in the Dansville and Ridgecrest neighborhoods of Largo.

At this time, Habitat Pinellas and West Pasco has completed a total of 46 new homes in the Dansville and neighboring Ridgecrest community. The affiliate has made a total investment of over $8,000,000 in the area and recently celebrated its 600th home milestone with a partner family who is now a Ridgecrest homeowner.
