Habitat Pinellas and West Pasco is excited to join the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) in celebrating Women in Construction (WIC) Week March 1st – 7th, 2020. The focus of WIC Week is to highlight women as a visible component of the construction industry. WIC Week raises awareness of the opportunities available for women in the construction industry and emphasizes the growing role of women in the industry.

Kitty, the Operations Coordinator for Habitat, has worked with us for three years. Previous to her position, she volunteered on our build sites and in the Habitat office. As Operations Coordinator, Kitty’s main focus is real estate acquisition, managing the process from the contract phase to delivering properties to the Construction Department that are ready for the permitting/building process.  Her daily tasks include working with real estate professionals, interfacing with municipal jurisdictions, and supporting the Habitat departments that serve homeowner candidates.

Kitty’s proudest moment in the industry has been during her time overseas to build with Habitat. “It was so rewarding to see the final product, and know that you’ve literally had a hand in the project. There is no better feeling for me than knowing I helped to make a dream come true.”

She encourages any women interested in construction to take advantage of the many opportunities for learning and growth within the industry.

“Maybe you have a passion for building. Maybe you enjoy architecture and design. Maybe you prefer to perform a support function. Not sure the construction industry is right for you? Volunteer for Habitat. You will be taught what you need to know to succeed. There is a job for everyone and a job for every skill level.”
