“I want a bright future for me and my son. I want us to be successful in life and building a home is knowledge that no one can ever take from me.”

Amanda Philie is a teacher at Aldersgate Christian Learning Center and has been working there for 2 years, with 11 years of experience as a teacher. She and her 7-year-old son, Dylan, are on their journey towards their forever home with Habitat. The mommy-son duo love to spend time together by going to the beach, Busch Gardens, Sky Zone, Adventure Island, and to the park. Dylan was diagnosed with ODD and an adjustment disorder a few years ago, but his behavior has drastically improved since then. He is very active and is interested in baseball, Fortnite, Rocket League, riding bikes, and fishing.

For the past two years, Amanda and Dylan have lived in a nice apartment that she has been able to afford. However, her landlord is planning on selling once her lease is up in four months. She has been looking for a place to stay, but she is not able to afford rent that is in an area that is safe enough for Dylan to play in. Thankfully, her landlord agreed to extend her lease if she was accepted into the Habitat for Humanity program…which she did!

Finding out that she was accepted into the Habitat program was such a relief for Amanda. She tells us that her first thoughts were “This is it for me and my son. Finally, I can breathe. My son and I will never have to worry again where we will live. We will have a forever home.” The Philie Family’s life and future in a Habitat home will be very different and the two are excited to have a home where they can grow and make memories that will last a lifetime. “I will be able to do so much more knowing what my mortgage is and having the reassurance of having my own home. Having a yard is such a big deal for my son because he is very active. I will finally be able to have a birthday party for my son at my own home!”

If you or your business is interested in getting involved with sponsoring a family’s home, such as the Philie Family, you can find our more on our Donate Page on our website. Our vision and mission at Habitat could not be possible without donations and sponsorships from our community!

“Be able to walk in and say home sweet home. Being able to show my son our new home and never having to worry about where we are going to live again. I’m crying now.”
