“Habitat for Humanity makes dreams come true.”

Deborah Mensah is a 27-year-old Certified Nursing Assistant from Ghana. She has worked at Gateway Care Center for three years and is currently working on her GED. She currently lives in a home with her family, including her mother, father, two sisters, and two brothers. She is a Christian and likes reading and listening to motivational music.

The family of seven currently live in a three-bedroom house. Her parents sleep in the master bedroom, her sisters share a bedroom, and her brothers also share a bedroom. Deborah stays in an extension of the house that includes no air conditioning, which makes her room very hot and uncomfortable. When Deborah first received the news that she was accepted into the Habitat program, her initial thoughts were “I’m getting out of the oven! I’m going to have home with air conditioning. Thank you, God.”

Deborah is eager to begin her sweat equity hours and is excited to learn new skills such as how to save money. She is most looking forward to a comfortable room with air conditioning, new neighbors, a backyard, and more space. “My life will be different because I will have a place to call my HOME!”

If you are interested in learning about Habitat’s volunteer opportunities, such as working on a jobsite like Deborah’s new home, please check out our Volunteer Page to read more about what is currently available. Volunteers are essential to Habitat’s mission and vision and none of what we do could be possible without you!

“My house will be very comfortable and very beautiful.”
