“Habitat for Humanity is a community that helps to build beautiful homes for people.”

Olivier Mboko and Marie Mwando are a Congolese couple who moved here from Burundi in Africa. They fell in love and moved to America together and soon gave birth to a beautiful daughter they named Princess Happiness. They are also expecting another child on the way soon. The couple is beginning their journey with Habitat for Humanity and is excited to finally have their own home here in the United States.

When they received the news that they were accepted in the program, they said “we were so happy and we felt we were going to have a place to call home”. They are excited to not have to pay rent anymore and be able to save some money for their growing family. They think owning their own home will be a very fun experience. They are curious about how their new house will look and are excited to make it their own.

Habitat’s mission could not be possible without the support of our volunteers. Olivier and Marie tell us that “Volunteering is valuable because we learn so many different things that can also help us in the future”. There are many opportunities to get involved with Habitat, including volunteering in the ReStore, at events, or on our build sites. For more information about becoming a volunteer, please visit our Volunteer Page on our website.

“I am building because I want to be at home with my family.”
