“Habitat for Humanity builds future wealth and establishes a sense of community.”

Tyshanta Ford is a single mother and dedicated teacher at Learning Empowered at St Marks. She has two children, her 19-year-old son Ronnie and her 6-year-old daughter Marley. Ronnie has a passion for photography and enjoys spending time with friends and family. He is currently attending technical school, focusing on photography classes. Marley, on the other hand, loves gymnastics, spending time with loved ones, and dancing at church.

Tyshanta, who has been teaching for 22 years, cherishes spending time with her friends and family, attending church, and reading. She describes herself as a homebody, enjoying activities with her family such as Monopoly and Uno, cooking and baking, and exploring new recipes online.

Currently, Tyshanta and her family live in a two-bedroom, one-bathroom house. She and her 6-year-old daughter share a room to ensure her 19-year-old son has some privacy. However, this arrangement can be challenging, and her daughter expresses a desire for her own space. With limited space and privacy, Tyshanta longs for a home where her family can have the comfort and security they deserve.

When Tyshanta learned of her acceptance into the Habitat for Humanity program, she was overwhelmed with emotion. “I was in shock,” she says. “I was excited and cried because I was stepping into a dream that I wanted for my family, working towards owning something that we could call ours.” She looks forward to learning all she can about building a home and hopes to assist others on their own homeownership journeys.

With Habitat for Humanity, Tyshanta envisions a bright future where she and her family will have a place to call their own, filled with warmth and security. She also desires to pay it forward by helping others achieve their dream of homeownership. Tyshanta sees her house as a safe haven for her and her children.

If you’re inspired by Tyshanta’s story and want to make a difference, consider volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. By lending your time and skills, you can contribute to building homes for families in need and help them achieve the same sense of security and pride that Tyshanta and her family are eagerly awaiting.
