“My life will no longer the same, as we will finally have space, suitable living, and a safe place we can finally call ours.”

Donnisha Batten is a single mother and Certified Nursing Assistant at Empath Health. She is on her journey towards homeownership in the Habitat program so that she can provide herself and her 13-year-old daughter, Amiyah, with a safe and stable place to call home. Donnisha describes herself as outgoing, passionate, and giving. Amiyah is an active young teenage who enjoys cheerleading, drawing, dancing, legos, and participating on her church’s flag ministry team. “We are a close-knit family a family of faith. we enjoy going out in giving to the less fortunate,” Donnisha describes.

Finding affordable housing options has been difficult for Donnisha, like many other families in our community. “Our living situation has been challenging as we have been living with my mother and nieces,” she tells us. “There’s a total of seven of us in a two bedroom. It’s overcrowded and not very suitable as we have multiple issues with the apartment. We make the best of it as we can.” Being accepted into the Habitat program was life-chaning for her family. “God answered my prayers,” she exclaimed.

“I am looking forward to giving my daughter her own room, decorating, sitting on the front porch, and most importantly hosting family events.” Homeownership will be a dream come true for the Batten Family. “My house will be a place of peace, love, and joy!”
