“I will achieve more goals knowing that I have stability in not only a house, but a home.”

Meet Denise Cookinson, a single mom in the Habitat for Humanity program, along with her 12-year-old son, Grayson, who loves playing sports. Denise’s story is a testament to the transformative power of stable housing.

“The living space that we were in was overcrowded, and it’s very difficult staying with someone,” Denise shares. “I’m a single parent raising a teenager, and we are a very loving family.” When she received the news that she had been accepted into the program, Denise felt a wave of gratitude and excitement. “My first thought was miracles do happen to people, and I was so excited. My son and I were in tears; it was a lovely thing, right?”

For Denise, this opportunity means more than just having a house; it’s about having a home where she and Grayson can build a stable future. “My life now will be greater, and I will be achieving more goals, knowing that I have stability not only in a house but in a home,” she says.

Denise’s dream is to have a peaceful place to call her own, where she can create lasting memories with her family. “I’m building because I want a place for my family to come together and create moments and memories in long stability. My house will be where peace, love, and laughter will be. A home is where you should feel safe and secure.”

Denise’s journey with Habitat for Humanity is a reminder of the impact that affordable housing can have on families.
