“I love my kids and I want to show them that if they work hard and are motivated, then they can accomplish anything.”
Kelly Wiggan, a customer service specialist for Energy Professionals is working toward her forever home with Habitat for herself and her four children. Her oldest son, Nasear, is 16-years-old and loves going to school and playing sports. Her second oldest child is Gregory who is 11-years-old and he loves playing video games. Ky’mani, Kelly’s third child, is 10-years-old and he is a kid who loves the outdoors and doing experiments. Finally, her youngest child is her daughter, Mariah, who is only 4-years-old and loves to be outside, dancing, and watching dentist videos on YouTube. The Wiggan’s are very caring, loving, and giving family who loves to see smiles on people’s faces.
The family’s living situation has been a struggle for the family of five. They currently live in a three-bedroom townhome that lacks the space for her kids live and to have freedom to play outside. Their neighborhood is not a very safe space to allow for them to do things as a family outdoors. Soon enough, the family will be moving to a safe neighborhood in an affordable house where there will be a lot of outdoor yard space for the family to spend time together. When Kelly was accepted into the program, her first thought was “I am thanking God for allowing me this opportunity.”
Kelly and her family are excited to begin their sweat equity hours. She expects to learn a lot of life changing skills while on the jobsite. “I am not a hands on person when it comes to house maintenance work, so this opportunity will teach me a lot from gardening skills to the process of building a house.” Kelly believes that volunteering for Habitat is a great opportunity that allows to put a smile on a family’s face.
Life after moving into their new forever home will be very different. Kelly says “We will have a lot of family gatherings. I will have a sense of self accomplishment. Relief that I have established something I’ve always wanted and provided generational wealth for my kids. If I was to leave this earth, I am leaving them a HOME with an affordable mortgage.” She is very excited to grill outside, watch her kids play in the yard, to finally be able to have a dog, not having to go to the laundromat, and having a bigger space so that her kids can invite friends over.
