“I want to give my kids a place to call home. I want them to see how hard I worked and all the hard times & sacrifices I’ve had to go through to give them a brand new home.”

Carissa Price is a single mother to five children who is also working two jobs to help support her family. This superstar mom is a Hospice Aide at Seasons Hospice and a CNA at Accent Care. She has been in the healthcare field for over 15 years. She and her children are very family-oriented and they rarely do anything without each other. Carissa’s oldest child is her daughter, Aniyah, who is 16-years-old and enjoys doing hair, nails, and all things fashion. Her second oldest is her only son, Rashad, who is 12 and like video games, eating ramen, and watching football stars on YouTube. The middle child of the family is Faith. She is 7-years-old and Carissa describes her as “my all-around daughter” as she enjoys many different things, from fashion to running track. The second youngest in the family is 3-year-old Deziyah who loves playing with her baby dolls and eating candy. The baby in the family is 1-year-old De’Lani who Carissa describes as her “boss baby”.

Two months ago, The Price Family was faced with a very stressful living situation, as the landlord they had been renting from  for four years was selling their home and only gave them a 30-day notice to find another place to live. “I searched day in and out trying to find a home for me and my children,” Carissa says. Getting accepted into the program was exciting, but also nerve-wracking for Carissa. She says, “I was excited and scared all in one because I want a new home, but this is a big opportunity in my life. Am I gonna be able to handle this? Can I really accomplish this goal?” We know with the guidance of our Habitat Staff and fellow Homeowner Candidates, Carissa and her family can accomplish anything.

Carissa’s new home will be a dream come true for her family. “I imagine my home will be everything and more. I would know exactly how to have a budget plan and know how to save money to be able to keep my home up to date and just being able to come home comfortably.” The American dream of homeownership became possible for the Price family after they took the first step of applying to the Habitat homeownership program. This dream could also become a possibility for you and your family as well. Take the first step and check out our Apply Page on our website to learn more about the application process.

“Home is where the heart, love, joy, laughter, and good cooking & eating is.”
