“My kids and I are starting completely over so starting with Habitat for Humanity on a new journey on our own home is a blessing.”

Alexis is a patient care taker at John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital and has worked there for almost three years! She has two children: a son named Marquill who is three years old, and a daughter named Amara who is two years old. Both of them love music, playing outside, coloring, and watching their favorite movies together. Marquill loves all types of sports and playing with his trucks and cars. Amara is a little diva and loves to show off her dance moves!

The family of three applied to the Habitat program after living with Alexis’ mother and realizing that they were in need of their own kid-friendly space where the children could grow and be free. It was challenging to live at Alexis’ mother’s house because as the kids get bigger, the space continues to get smaller, which poses a risk for the children to break items or get into places they shouldn’t. After getting accepted into the Habitat program, Alexis’ first thoughts were “I was shocked and excited, but then I got nervous because I knew right then it was time to get to work.”

“If you truly want to help someone out; what a better way than to help them build their safe place, their home.”

When asked why Alexis is building her home, she stated “I am building for my kids”. She is looking forward to decorating Marquill and Amara’s bedroom after moving into their new home.
