“Habitat for Humanity is my best opportunity to help my family out of poverty. This will help break the cycle of poverty in my family.”
Cleopatra Adams is a hardworking single mother and student. She is a Certified Nursing Assistant for HCA Florida Largo Hospital and has been a CNA for over 14 years. She is also a Practical Nursing Student at Erwin Technical College where she will graduate from in July of 2022. She is a mother to three children: her 15-year-old daughter, Vasanti, her 12-year-old nephew, Zachariah, and her 9-year-old daughter, Nyla. Vasanti is a gifted student planning to start dual enrollment in the next school year. She is very strong in math, science and English and is interested in learning guitar and becoming fluent in Spanish. Zachariah loves to play video games and to watch wrestling. Cleopatra says, “He is a very witty, outgoing, and enjoys visiting friends. He is shy at first, but is very outgoing once he observes you.” She also told us that he’s the shortest kid in 6th grade, but stood up to a bully for his friend. Nyla is a sweet, soft-spoken child. She loves to play her Switch, go to school, and play with her grandma’s dog. She loves her family and enjoys watching movies.
The Adams Family’s rent is very expensive. Their apartment is in need of structural repairs that the apartment complex has not repaired properly. Currently, her daughters share a room, but with a six year age gap, it is becoming difficult and Vasanti wishes she had her own space. When Cleopatra learned that she was accepted into the program, she was shocked, excited, and eager to begin her journey with Habitat. She says, “I am looking forward to a peace of mind that I have a my forever home and stability of my children.”
Volunteers are at the heart of our organization. For anyone looking to volunteer with Habitat, Cleopatra offers this advice: “When you volunteer, you’re helping a family build a secure future. Not only that, you could also learn some things that can help you.” For more information on volunteering on one of our build sites, in our ReStores, or at our events, please visit our Volunteer Page on our website.
“My house will be my sanctuary and blessing.”
